An Interpol Purple Notice issued in 2013 describes a new method of processing sharks on board to circumvent anti-shark finning legislation, whereby the fins remain attached to the spinal cord and the flesh and organs are all removed. This practice was first noticed in sharks seized by Costa Rica in 2011 from vessel WANG JIA MEN 89 (flagged to Belize).
